Description

These buttery soft dinner rolls are a delight with their pillowy texture and golden tops. Perfect for holiday gatherings, they are easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm (about 110°F)
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet instant yeast)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3 ¼ cups bread flour
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted for brushing after baking)
  • Flaky salt (optional)

Instructions

  • Warm the milk to about 110°F and activate the yeast if using active dry yeast.
  • Mix the warmed milk, egg, and softened butter in a large bowl or stand mixer until well combined.
  • Incorporate the bread flour and salt, mixing until a soft, slightly tacky dough forms.
  • Knead the dough by hand or mixer until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes.
  • Let the dough rise in a greased bowl, covered, for 1 to 1½ hours until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough, divide into 15 pieces, and shape into balls. Arrange in a greased 9×13 pan.
  • Cover and let the shaped rolls rise again for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the rolls for 17-18 minutes until golden brown.
  • Brush with melted butter right after baking and sprinkle with flaky salt if desired.

Notes

If using all-purpose flour, the rolls will still be soft but may lack chewiness from bread flour.
For a flavor twist, consider adding herbs or garlic powder into the dough.
Avoid overkneading the dough to keep the rolls soft.
