Description

These Heart-Shaped Macarons are a charming treat for any celebration. Made with almond flour and vanilla, they offer a delightful flavor that’s simple to prepare. Perfect for brunch gatherings or a sweet gift!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (100g) almond flour
  • 1½ cups (180g) powdered sugar
  • 3 large egg whites, at room temperature
  • ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Print out 4 copies of the Heart Template.
  • Sift the almond flour and powdered sugar into a large bowl and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  • Gradually add granulated sugar and continue beating until almost stiff peaks are reached.
  • Incorporate the red gel food coloring and vanilla extract, beating until stiff peaks form.
  • Fold in a third of the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until fully combined. Gradually fold in the rest until the batter runs off the spatula in a 'figure 8' without breaking.
  • Transfer the batter into a piping bag with a small round tip.
  • Place the heart templates over a cookie sheet, cover with parchment paper, and pipe the batter into the heart shapes. Spread the batter to the edges and form tips at the bottom of each heart.
  • Tap the pan on the counter to release air bubbles, and use a toothpick to pop any surface bubbles.
  • Allow the macarons to rest for 45 minutes to an hour until the tops are no longer tacky.
  • Preheat the oven to 315°F (160°C).
  • Bake one sheet at a time for 13 minutes until macarons rise and form feet.
  • Let cool on a rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on the rack.

Notes

Ensure the egg whites are at room temperature for better volume.
The macarons must rest until non-tacky for the best results in texture.
Store leftover macarons in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
