- 1/2 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1 large egg and 1 large egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- 1/2 teaspoon vinegar
- 8 ounces full-fat cream cheese (brick style)
- 2 1/2 – 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1–2 tablespoons cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C) and prepare a 9×13 inch pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until creamy. Add egg, egg yolk, vanilla, red food coloring, and vinegar, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually combine dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just mixed. Press dough into prepared pan.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until set; cool completely before frosting.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt; adjust consistency with cream.
- Frost cooled bars and slice into squares.
